Artisan Drumworks offers our stave shell design in full drum set configurations. We are pleased to introduce them in three series: Custom, Custom Select, and Prestige Series. Each line offers the musician a shell profile and wood selection that is suited to their tastes and needs.
Stave drum shells produce a unique, controlled, and pure, resonant tone coupled with a very responsive attack. They have become the choice of many players and sound engineers in studios everywhere. Our bass drums are massive! Tom toms exhibit a clear, focused sound. All three series come backed by our exclusive Lifetime Warranty. Please see details on Warranty page.
Artisan “Customs”
Artisan Customs are handcrafted from your choice of domestic species (maple, birch, ash, cherry, black walnut, beech). Customs come standard with our Hand Rubbed Oil/Wax finish, 2.3 mm triple flange hoops, your choice of heads, and our Lifetime Warranty on the shells. Artisan Custom Selects are hancrafted from your choice of domestic species (maple, birch, ash, cherry, black walnut, beech). These shells employ our EdgeCraft - Integral Reinforcement Ring (I.R.R.) which is turned into the shell during the lathing process (not a glue-in), adding strength to the outer edges of the drum shell where it is needed most, thereby allowing the overall body of the resonating chamber to be thinner. This produces a drum shell with a higher degree of resonance and a lower fundamental shell pitch. Custom Select drums exhibit a very focused, pure tone and a broad tuning range. This is our most popular line of drums.
Custom Selects come standard with Oil/Wax finish, 2.3mm triple flange hoops, choice of heads, Lifetime Warranty. Please see below for additional custom and finish options.

Artisan “Prestige Series”
The Artisan Prestige Series drums represent the hallmark of our company. These beautifully unique drums are handcrafted out of the exotic wood species of your choice, some of which include African Bubinga, Lacewood, Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry), African Mahogany, Honduran Rosewood etc. Each species offers a uniqueness in appearance and tonal quality and contributes to the musician’s individuality in their craft.
Prestige Series utilizes our Edgecraft I.R.R. profile which produces reinforcement on the outer edges of the drum shell and a thinner resonating chamber. This affords a higher degree of resonance, and a lower fundamental shell pitch which broadens the sound.
Unlike the large manufacturers of drums, these are made purely out of exotic hardwood, not merely the outer ply. The actual timbre (distinctive tonal quality) of each species is represented through the use of solid wood and with distinct variation from species to species. This quality is not as clearly defined in ply shells. These aspects, in turn, make these drums the most unique and original of any acoustic drums available today.
Prestige Series drums come standard with your choice of exotic wood species, EdgeCraft I.R.R., Oil/Wax finish, 2.3mm triple flange hoops, choice of heads, and our exclusive Lifetime Warranty on shells. Other options for finish and hardware selections are available. Please see below.
