Another Artisan Drumworks exclusive:
French Polishing is one of the oldest craftsman finishes known to man. It is also used in high end acoustic guitar manufacture and stringed instruments due to it’s acoustic properties and ease of repair.
The process involves filling of the grain utilizing our proprietary process that does not obscure, but enhances the natural appearance, the “figure” in the wood. Then, shellac is ”padded” on with multiple thin layers by hand to “body- up” the finish. We then hand apply a couple of thin protective top coats of finish to increase durability. Finally, after a curing period, a protective coat of wax is applied.
Due to the nature of shellac, this finish produces warmth unparalleled by any other finishing process and is an Artisan favorite. Our new Hybrid version offers increased protection of this beautiful finishing process.

EdgeCraft™
At Artisan Drumworks, we are continually looking for and listening to feedback from our customers. So comes our latest introduction, EdgeCraft™
EdgeCraft™ utilizes a thinner shell profile coupled with an integral reinforcement ring (I.R.R.) that is cut into and an integral part of the shell. Placing the I.R.R. at each edge of the shell allows us to produce thinner shells with specific dimensions according to their diameter. We believe the proportion of the volume and mass of a shell is a factor that effects overall tone and sustain. Borrowing the premise of world-renowned makers of high quality drums, we are now offering our highly acclaimed stave drum shells in this design. Thin shells are known to offer a higher degree of resonance and a lower fundamental pitch. They also allow more of the wood and less of the drum head to be heard.
Thinner shells are commonly preferred in studio and lower volume settings. Thicker shells are a better choice for live settings and where projection is needed, such as coliseums. We are proud to offer our EdgeCraft™ design. As always, all of our snare drums and drum sets are handcrafted to your exact specifications.

ARTISAN CUSTOM WOOD HOOPS
We have an exciting new addition to our line-up of hand-crafted products! Artisan Drumworks is now offering custom wood hoops in your choice of wood species for snare drums, tom toms, and bass drums, an Artisan exclusive. These are made in our shop and utilize a finger joint process that creates both strength and aesthetic appeal. Tension rods are counter-sunk and out of the way, drum head collars are tucked nicely underneath, and we even profile them to resemble a die-cast hoop.
A very notable characteristic of our solid wood hoops is a definable pitch that contributes nicely to the singing of our stave shells. Contrasted to triple flange, die-cast, and multi-ply hoops, there is a marked difference in that they actually produce a tone in and of themselves. Adding a pair of these to your drum is certain to open up the sound and produce a voice previously unheard. When mated with our stave shells, sound doesn’t get any finer.
Available in different sizes and wood species to match or contrast with your drums!
Artisan Custom Wood Hoops:
Snare drums: $225pr./ $250 exotic
Tom Toms: $175 pr. / $225 pr. exotic wood species
Bass Drums: $275pr. / $325 exotic wood species

ARTISAN DRUMWORKS “SYMPHONIA”
Symphonic Series: (6 x 14 Cocobolo)
Artisan Drumworks is proud to present the Flagship model of our symphonic series snare drums: The Symphonia. This exquisite instrument is handcrafted out of solid Cocobolo (Dalbergia Retusa). A true tropical rosewood, this wood species is considered by some to be the most attractive in the world. Cocobolo is widely used among luthiers in acoustic guitar making
not only for it’s beauty, but mainly for it’s rich tone and sustain.
Cocobolo trees grow in the west coast region of Central America. Wood grain varies in color from rich red to an attractive variegated appearance of yellow, orange, and red streaks which matures upon exposure to light. Over time this process produces a mellow orange/ red color. Cocobolo is very dense and has a fine, uniform texture. It is one of the most resonant wood species we have worked with to date. In fact, we use Cocobolo in our demonstrations to contrast the difference between solid wood (stave shell design) and ply wood (ply shell design) during our “tap test” display.
The Symphonia comes outfitted with cable, heavy nylon, standard wires, and genuine calf skin heads ( batter and snare side). This combination of features, coupled with this incredible “tone wood,” affords the musician multiple sonic textures and a warm, beautiful tone that is unparalleled.
“I received my drum today. It is great! Fantastic! I am very happy with your work.”
